Refunds

Books may be returned to the U of MN Bookstores location where the books were purchased within 30 days. You must have your original receipt and books must be in re-saleable condition. If the book comes with a CD or access code, the seal must be unbroken to return.

General Return Guidelines:
 

To receive a full refund, course materials must meet the term-based return deadline and be in their original condition. For any questions regarding course material returns, please use the Contact Us page and select “Textbooks and Course Materials” to send your inquiry to our Course Materials team.

If you would like to exchange or return a course material item in store, please bring it in along with a copy of your receipt.

Items purchased online can also be returned by mail. Please repackage the item(s), including a copy of your receipt, and address your shipment to the address below:

Non-Refundable Purchases

  • Digital Course Packets
  • Accessed eTextbooks
  • Opened loose-leaf materials
  • Opened kits
  • Course materials for classes lasting two weeks or less
  • Any course materials purchased after the refund deadline has passed

Fall and Spring Semester Returns

  • Course Materials, including rental textbooks, may be returned for a full
    refund during the first week of the semester.
  • eTextbooksare returnable two weeks from the purchase date, up to the end
    of the first week of classes. eTextbooks are not returnable once accessed.
  • Inclusive Access (IA) materials do not follow a traditional return process. If
    your course is using IA materials, you must “opt out” of receiving the digital
    access before the opt out deadline to receive a refund. Please read more

B-Term, May Term, and Summer Session Returns:

  • B-Term, including rental textbooks, may be returned for a full
    refund during the first week of the semester.
  • Course materials, including rentals, for May Term and Summer Session
    courses that meet less than 8 weeks may be returned within the first three
    days of the start of the course. Course Packets may be returned on the first
    day of class only..
  • Inclusive Access (IA) materials do not follow a traditional return process. If
    your course is using IA materials, you must “opt out” of receiving the digital
    access before the opt out deadline to receive a refund. Please read more

Graduation Apparel: Bachelor, Master, Doctorate Apparel

Only unused merchandise with attached tags can be return. Refundable through April 27th with original packaging intact.
Without a receipt, merchandise can be exchanged only.

Academic Stoles: No return , merchandise can be exchanged only.

Diploma Frames

  • Unopened, non-special order product may be returned within 30 days from the date of purchase with the original receipt
  • If we offer a lower price within seven days of your purchase, you may bring in the original receipt within 14 days of the price change to receive a refund for the difference

General Polices 
All returns and exchanges of graduation products require a receipt.
Defective merchandise may be exchanged at any time

Medical Reference Books are non-returnable.

Your return package should include all original packaging, paperwork, and receipts. For exchanges, please write "exchange for" on the receipt with either the SKU, size, or item description. We recommend shipping all merchandise returns via UPS. We will credit the same credit card account we charged on your order. Standard shipping charges will be applied to orders that are reshipped.

Returns only accepted on defective product within 30 days of purchase and with the original receipt.

This policy covers all computers, tablets, iPods, phones, Apple Watch, software, cameras, ink, gaming, and earbuds sold through the U of MN Bookstores M Tech Store.

  • Opened products listed above are not returnable.
  • Customized or configured products are not returnable.
  • Unopened regular stocked products may be returned within 30 days from the date of purchase with the original receipt.
  • Open products not listed above will be charged a 10% restocking fee and must have original packaging in sellable condition.

If we offer a lower price within seven days of your purchase (regular priced merchandise only), you may bring in the original receipt within 14 days of the price change to receive a refund for the difference.

Eligible Students may charge technology purchases for personal academic use to their student account. The U of MN Bookstores reserves the right to limit the quantity of merchandise charged to a student account, and determine eligibility on an individual basis. Students may purchase a maximum of one Computer, one iPad, and three iPods per year from date of purchase. Review our purchasing terms here.

Course materials are only refundable during the first week of classes. This time frame may be shorter or non-existent for some B-term or shorter-length classes. Once the final return date has taken place, all course materials are considered to be final sale and not refundable.

Some physical copies cannot be refunded if they are opened or the access code opened/revealed. Textbooks being returned must be in the same condition they were purchased (i.e. new books need to be in pristine condition with no signs of wear).
